With so many fashion bloggers in this over saturated blogging market, it’s hard to find one that resonates with an impeccable and unique style that sets themselves apart from the rest of the sphere. While there are many with blogs, there are very few that really capture their audience. So, in the midst of all the flurry and media frenzy at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, we hunted down and found the lady behind the power blog The Haute Pursuit. Meet Vanessa Hong. The petite 31-year old New York based beauty with a Chinese heritage and a killer of a blog chats to Sporteluxe about her work, her health and wellness and how she loves to cook a gluten free vegetarian pizza!

Q: How do you stay on top of your health in the lead up to Fashion Week?

I stay on top of my health by trying to get a run in every morning and drinking copious amounts of green tea and coffee.

Q: So how far are you running in Sydney?

I usually run about 5km in the Sydney outdoors because it’s so beautiful.

Q: Your blog is absolutely stunning. What’s the inspiration behind your blog and how you style your photo-shoots?

It’s been an evolution. I work with a creative who is also my partner. We travel around the world, mostly together and his name is Quan Mai (Geneticboi.lovespot.com). He’s also my photographer. My style is inspired by neutrals, so black, white and grey. Because I have blonde hair I don’t want to much craziness going on. Right now, my style is more relaxed I guess, and I’m wearing a lot of denim mixing it in with different kinds of stuff.

Q: When do you fly home?

It’s my first time to Australia period and I fly home on the 20th. I’m originally from Vancouver Canada, but I live in New York now. It was snowing just before I left in March and snowed on the 1st day of Spring.

Q: What’s your heritage?

I’m Chinese. Both my parents are from Hong Kong. When I used to live in Beijing I used to go back maybe like twice a year, but now I haven’t been back in along time.

Q: How long have you been blogging for and is it full time?

I’ve been blogging since 2010. It’s been a long time. I blog and consult and also have an e commerce site called THPSHOP which is full-time for me now.

Q: Any tips for bloggers who want to start their own blog?

You know this is hard to say, because I feel very very lucky as I was in the right place at the right time and not many people were blogging. I mean now it’s a lot more saturated. So my only tip is to do it cause you love it. And work hard. Bloggers are the hardest working people I know.

Q: How many posts do you do per week?

I’ve slowed down considerably because of Fashion Week, but I do two a week max, but before I used to do a post every day.

Q: 4 things that nobody knows about you?

  1. I don’t come from a fashion background
  2. I was pre-med in uni. I have a degree in Bio Chemistry
  3. I’m really into Astrology. I’m an Aries and I’m born April 6th.
  4. I don’t eat meat. I love to cook, I’m really good at making vegan and vegetarian food.

Q: Whats your favourite dish to cook?

Gluten-free veggie pizza with chic pea flour. I used to make all my own cheeses but don’t have the time anymore. Green balls are great and super easy to make.

Q: Any beauty tips?

Spray Evian spray over your skin after you put your foundation on and you’ll have a glow all day.
